The relationship between Charles and Adam becomes deadly in the next 25 pages of East of Eden. An evening encounter leads to Charles confronting his brother about their father's feelings towards each other. Charles believes that their father, Cyrus, does not love him as much as he loves Adam, which causes Charles to violently beat him. Meanwhile, Samuel and Liza Hamilton's family grows with the addition of 8 children, all of whom have distinct personalities.

hello again, twin! :)
anyway......to me, Charles has always been the observant one, and he KNOWS that his father loves Adam more. so, its not really paranoia; its more like hurt and resentment..... :)
paranoia is a horible word to describe Charles' reaction to Cyrus' affection towards Adam. I agree with mrs. petrelli when charles resents adam for receiving more love from their father.
I think Charles is sort of paranoid, because he knows his father loves Adam more that is why he confronted him. But i think in the end they will both receive affection from their father.
Charles wasnt paranoid, he's just jealous. His aggressive character certainly doesnt alleviate the "trauma" of not being the favored son.
